The liver fluke, also known as Clonorchis sinensis, is a typical recurrent trematode. Its final hosts are humans and carnivorous mammals (dogs, cats, etc.), while its intermediate hosts are freshwater snails, freshwater fish and shrimps. Adult worms are found in the hepatobiliary ducts of humans and carnivorous mammals; in large numbers, they may migrate into the large bile ducts or gall bladder, and occasionally into the pancreatic ducts. Fasciolosis of sheep, goats and cattle, is the major cause of economic losses in the dairy and meat industry. liver fluke disease is mainly harmful because of the damage to the patient's liver. In addition, some domestic and international literature reports that liver fluke infection can cause bile duct epithelial cell proliferation leading to carcinogenesis, mainly adenocarcinoma.
