Filariasis is a chronic parasitic disease caused by filarial parasites in lymphatic, subcutaneous, abdominal and cardiovascular tissues. In the early stage, the main manifestations are lymphangitis and lymphadenitis; in the late stage, a series of symptoms and signs caused by the obstruction of lymphatic vessels appear. Experimental diagnosis is based on the detection of microfilariae in blood or skin tissue. The main sources of infection for this disease are patients with microfilariae in their blood and asymptomatic carriers. Humans are the only final and reservoir hosts for B. bancrofti. filarial parasites can also be found in mammals such as monkeys, cats and nails, which can serve as the main reservoir hosts and may be the source of infection.
